Post ER visit update & a little party is in the air
We made it through today’s ER visit in a record 1 hour. We left with a sedated MRI booked for December, and a follow up visit with the head of pediatric orthopedics to follow. We are so relieved to know that Samuel’s case is being pursued and feel comfortable with things moving forward. Thank you for your prayers!
At this point he is mobile and he is making use of his other three limbs to climb and get around. We’re really thankful to get this MRI as a baseline for his surgery in a few months too. It’s apparent that God is working things out for his good in the midst of it all.
And as for today….
It’s Grace’s 9th birthday!
I have a pretty red dress wearin’ daughter that is super excited about a few packages that are hidden safely away in our
storage room.
Off to get ready!

What would you think if you saw this face?
Or how about this one?
Or this?
Yeah.
I know.
Cute, right?
Unfortunately, this is the face that Samuel shows the world.
Huh? Why is that unfortunate?
Well, this past week we have been to the ER twice.
Samuel hurt his left leg somehow and he’s letting us know in no uncertain terms that he’s in pain.
However, once we arrive at the ER, this….
is the face that the doctors get to see.
Fortunately, our second trip scored us a specialist who truly heard us and was able to look past all that cuteness.
He sent us home with instructions to keep all that sweetness and light in rest mode over the weekend. Hopefully the injury is soft tissue related and will show improvement. If things continue on this path though, we are heading back into the ER on Wednesday morning. Next steps are a sedated MRI.
It’s painful to see him hurting and not know how to help him.
And it hurts to see him try to be so winsome all the time.
He’s a special little man and we can’t wait for the day when he is free to be just Samuel.
And not Samuel on stage.
Will you keep him in your prayers for the next bit?

Question: How early do you put up your Christmas decorations?
We have a tradition of putting ours up right around my birthday (mid-Nov.). I know many of you are from the US and begin decorating right after your Thanksgiving.
I have to admit, I don’t know what it is, but for the first time in about 5 years I am itching to put them up now (actually since before Halloween. If I really think about it, I think it is due to the fact that we have all of our family members actually home this fall. No looming cloud of paperwork. No wondering if they are safe.
I have to say, it’s a good great feeling!
Off to start our school day. Have a good one!
{And no comments about my closet. ;)}

Hmmmm, what do we have here?
Found on my iTouch, courtesy of one curious, yet bored little girl.

Hide and Seek
When I can put on my Mama hat and take off my teacher hat, there is something so very cute about how Hide and Seek sounds in this house.
Yes, I said sounds.
As of today (November 7, 2011), Grace has been with us for almost 2 years, Garnet for almost 4 years and Samuel for almost 9 months.
On their own they have cute speech patterns that others discreetly chuckle over sometimes.
Together, they down right make me smile. And look for my ear plugs…
Grace: Okay. Now it’s my turn to count. 1-2-3…
Samuel: {loud shrieking giggles fading away as he races to follow Garnet to a good hiding spot}
Garnet: SAMUEL! (loud huffing sigh)
Grace: Samu-well, come here! You can’t make so much noise! (she yells)
Garnet: Wight! You can’t tell Jie jie where Ge ge is!
Samuel: Oh Tay!
Grace: (goes back to counting) 1-2-3
Samuel: (rather than hiding, begins to count too) 1-2-4-18
Grace: Samu-well!
Samuel: Huh? Whaaaaaaaaht?
And off they go…

Something so simple
Can really mean a lot!
Garnet came running into the kitchen holding this partially blown up balloon a moment ago. It was his words that drew my attention.
“Look Mom, I blew this up without plugging my nose!”
For a kid with a fistula (hole) in his gumline, that’s a big accomplishment!
Way to go buddy!

Lunch?!
On the Menu Today…
Green Slime
&
Insects
Ummmmm, no.
Garnet has been taking a certain medication for awhile. One of the possible side effects is loss of appetite. And the accompanying Mommy worry. He doesn’t have a lot of spare change to lose, if you catch my drift.
Bring on the Green Slime aka a green vegetable based protein drink. I think the picture clearly explains why my children have named it as such.
Do you think his appetite will return for supper?
As for item #2 on said lunch menu.
Well, all it took was a shriek from my littlest dude of, “Mom! ‘Pider!”, with wild finger pointing at his luncheon plate.
Well after practically breaking my neck from the race across the kitchen, I soon saw the evil beast critter in question.
Okay, once my heart calmed down from the thought of a spider crawling in my son’s salad, I shook my head and thought about it for a minute.
This little guy was fairly cold to the touch. He was crawling in Samuel’s salad which, I confess, originally came from a wonderful little pre- washed and bagged package. After our first round of the salad TWO nights ago, it was put into a plastic container and into the fridge.
Talk about survival against all odds.
And, well, yuck!
I kind of felt bad when I took him outside into the 10 degree Celsius weather. God bless him.
But oooo – yuck!
Hopefully Samuel’s appetite will have returned for supper too, as after I had extricated the ladybug from his foliage, he quickly scrambled down from his chair and said, “All done!”
Can you blame him? hehe

Update on the braces
Thank you so much to you all who let me know that indeed having 5/6th of his brackets come off was not a reasonable thing.
We figured so.
Off to the dentist he went this morning. He returned with fully re-bracketed teeth and a tender mouth.
The reason? Apparently there was something wrong with how the cement was mixed up by the assistant?! Uh, yeah.
Well, regardless, here we go. Everything appears in line and he’s managed to eat a soft dinner tonight topped off with a protein powder filled smoothie.
Thank you for all the tips guys.
I love blogdom.
